BBQ Cheddar Stuffed Turkey Meatloaf

It’s not a glamourous name.

It’s certainly not a fancy food.

And boy oh boy do people have feelings on it.

If you hate it, you do you.

I really like it. Always have. Hot, cold, or on a sandwich. Have you ever had a leftover meatloaf sandwich on white bread? All the heart eyes.

I particularly enjoy finding ways to add a new twist to it. This recipe is just that.

Turkey that has a cheddar cheese layer in the center and a doctored up store bought BBQ sauce that not only tops the loaf, but also a bit goes into the meat mixture helping ensure that it doesn’t dry out and keeps it flavorful.

Here’s how you do it.

  • Glaze
  • 1 Cup BBQ Sauce
  • 2 Tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • 2 Tablespoons Mustard (Whatever kind you want, mine was yellow.)

  • Meatloaf
  • 2 Pounds Ground Turkey
  • 1½ Cups Bread Crumbs
  • 1 Small Onion Finely Diced
  • ⅓ Cup Of Glaze
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • 2 Cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Why the lemon juice? It subtles the meaty flavor of the turkey and it adds a wonderful tang to the sauce. Try it! I do it with my beef meatloaf too. I promise it doesn’t make it taste lemon-y.

Preheat oven to 350*
Grease loaf pan.

Mix together glaze ingredients.

Mix together all the meatloaf ingredients except the cheese. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Place half of the meat mixture into loaf pan.

Top with all of the cheese.

Top with remaining meat mixture.

Bake uncovered for 1 hour.

Top with remaining glaze.
Bake for an additional 15 minutes.
