Home For The Holidays

Last weekend was one of my favorite in recent months. On Sunday I ate cake for a pre-breakfast appetizer (totally a thing on your birthday) and had shrimp and grits for my actual breakfast. Which, if you don’t know me, is one of my favorite foods.

We followed a morning of great food up with heading to a local tree farm to pick the perfect tree. This year was extra nice because it was warm and sunny out! Not usual for Ohio this time of year, but we were thrilled to not be freezing. My husband and I both agreed we wanted to get a smaller tree. We looked high and low and found a great one. My husband got to use his ax, our oldest pulled the sled with the baby in it, and I took all the pictures and videos. It was a great afternoon.

I enjoy decorating our home for Christmas. With a very curious toddler running around, I kept it simple. I have picked up all the decor from thrift stores, on sale after the holidays, or it’s been gifted to me over the years.

There is something so magical and cozy about having lights all over the house. I’m totally guilty of plugging them in first thing in the morning, and as long as I am home, they are on. I also enjoy burning these 2 candles as often as I can too. It may seem odd, but I like to burn them at the same time. It's the ultimate holiday aroma. {Click the picture if you'd like to buy them, it'll shoot you right over to amazon.}

Here’s a peek at what the Manor looks like this holiday.

My easy DIY centerpiece for the dining room table.

The base is a galvanized tray I use for entertaining.

I topped it with branches we (ahem my husband) cutoff the tree, cinnamon pine cones, a vase and florals from the dollar tree, and a snow globe we were gifted.

For several years we had grandparents that would gift us with collectible festive decor. The snowman and glass ornament you see are some of them. Every year, I very carefully unbox and unwrap them and think about Nana and Papa.

Last, but not least, our tree. Can I just say how much I love this little guy? It's far and away my favorite tree we've ever had.

When I moved out of my own, I had dreams of going to wherever I stored decorations and being able to pick from several different colors and "themes" to decorate my tree with. So after Christmas every year, I pickup 1 tub of Christmas balls in a different color when they are marked down 50%. I have done this for the last 7 years. I also always keep my eye out for "fancy" white ornaments. The dollar tree has my some of the best. They've held up beautifully and you can't beat the price!

So as we pull out the ornaments each year, we decide on the fly, what our theme for that year will be. This year we did green and brown. We always have white and silver with it. In previous years we've done blue and silver/white, Red and silver/white, and red and brown, with pops of lime green. I hope to pickup some purple this year.

In case you're wondering what I do with homemade and gifted ornaments I get, they hang on every single cabinet knob in my kitchen. I spend so much time in there, I love being able to see them and think about how old my school girl was when she made it or who gave it to us. It's also a fun way to decorate the kitchen a little.

I'm no Martha Stewart, but I love how cozy our house feels right now.
